Construction is well underway on Summit Aviation’s new 78,000 square-foot expansion. Summit Aviation, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, broke ground for the new development on June 9, 2010, on its 550-acre site.
In January, the Delaware State Fire Marshall certified Summit’s improved fire suppression system in the existing hangars that currently house all the helicopter aircraft modification and induction services. An eighth hangar is being built as part of the new construction.
Summit Aviation President Robert Fitzpatrick says construction on the new hangar is expected to be complete in June, followed shortly by the completion of the 9,200 square-foot paint facility in August 2011. In addition to the hangar and paint facility, also being constructed are two cold storage units and an additional 11,400 square-feet of support and office space.
Summit’s parent company, Greenwich AeroGroup, has invested $12 million in capital since acquiring the facility in 2008. This growth will increase Summit’s service and maintenance capacity and support for government and military aviation, general aviation and corporate segments.
